What has come to be the hallmark of Bill Martz shirts — designs that are classically symbolic of the Chesapeake Bay area — originally started with a patriotic design during Dessert Storm in 1991 entitled the Eagle Flies.
As part of the ongoing exploration of how he might earn a living with his artistic abilities — Bill’s Eagle Flies tee-shirt was a test to see if there would be a market for good quality tees with his designs. There was. Even in the remote area in which he lives, the small number of shirts printed (only 50) sold out within two days to people relatively close by.
Immediately Bill turned his focus to designs representing various symbols of the Chesapeake Bay. They were immediately successful.
In order to find and expand a market for the shirts, Bill and his wife worked Boat shows and gained a following. They appeared at the shows under the name of Chesapeake Bay Designer Sportswear.
You may have seen them regularly at the
- The Annapolis Sailboat or Power Boat Shows in the fall
- The Bay Bridge Show in the Spring
- The Watermens Expo in Ocean City Maryland in January
- The Richmond Boat Show in February
and sporadically at several others.
Somewhere in the middle of all this — the demand for his original paintings increased. The boat shows were taking the much needed time away from painting.
So one by one the boat shows were dropped from the schedule and the main source for sales became the small shop that Bill and his wife run that is open to his clientelle.
To better serve the extended market that was developed during the boat show years, BillMartzShirts.com was created.
The original, classic, timeless designs are exclusive to BillMartzShirts. They’re different from what you usually see and not available anywhere else.
Perfect for anyone who loves nature, waterfowl, lighthouses, the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.
